Planting in the fall season offers more time for them to adjust

It is good thing to start planting new shrubs soon after the summer. Then your plants will have more than enough time to adjust accordingly to the stress and heat that next summer will create.

Fall season offers cool air

When you plant your shrubs during the fall, you will be exposing them to cooler air above the ground. However, the temperature of soil will not be that cool. This creates an ideal environment to stimulate the growth of new roots. You can get the plants to properly establish by the next summer season.

It can help the shrubs to enter into a period of dormancy

You can get the shrubs to enter into a period of dormancy during fall. This is where you don’t need to worry too much about allocating resources to foliage. The plants will be focusing energy more into the development of roots and storage of nutrients for the upcoming cooler months. You can simply plant the shrubs and forget them.

Learn how to plant the shrubs correctly

You must have a clear idea on how to plant the shrubs correctly as well. Here’s a quick guide that you can follow to do it right.

  • You should start off by clearing debris, mulch, and rocks.
  • Next, you need to dig hole, which is twice the size of your plant container.
  • You may now remove your shrub from the container. All you have to do is to knock the sides of it, so that the plant becomes loose. You can also cut the plastic container if needed.
  • As the next step, you should place the root ball of your shrub in the hole. Make sure that the height of the shrub’s root ball barely comes up from the surface of earth.
  • You may now rotate the plant to get the desired appearance.
  • Next, you should lift up the shrub from its hole and relax its roots with the help of your fingers. This will make you get the plant adjust quickly to the new home. Then you need to place the root ball back in the hole after testing the roots in a gentle manner.
  • As the last step, you should backfill the hole using dirt that you have when digging the hole.

If you follow these steps, you can get the shrubs to grow healthily. Make sure that you keep sufficient spacing of around 8 feet in between shrubs. That’s because a shrub can grow up to a width of around 3 feet in width and 8 feet in height. Always stick to fall season to get the best results.
